When touch
becomes connection
At the second port, the question moved from how neural signals encode to how bodily contact changes social behavior. In Heidelberg, I traced how touch recruits parvocellular oxytocin neurons and promotes social exchange.
Why does touch make us more willing to approach one another?
The study revealed a parvOT microcircuit through which social touch promotes interfemale communication and social interest. It represents a complete capability built in Heidelberg: framing a social question, identifying the cell type, and testing the circuit causally.
